Survival of refrigerated Tatochila butterflies (Lepidoptera: Pieridae) as an indicator of male nutrient investment in reproduction.

Arthur M Shapiro1.

Abstract

Tatochila butterflies show prolonged survival in cold (2° C) storage. Mating significantly reduces survival in males, suggesting that nutrients may be directed into spermatophores or maintenance under storage conditions; this provides a potential index of male nutrient investment in reproduction.
