The study of proteins during early stages of embryogenesis of sea urchins : II. Combined electrophoretic and immunodiffusion investigations of S-100 fraction.

Abstract

The changes of the patterns of soluble proteins during early embryogenesis have been studied by acrylamide and agar-agar gel electrophoresis. Immunological analyses of electrophoretically separated antigens have been done by diffusion-in-gel methods. It has been shown that immunoprecipitable proteins of the S-100 fraction represent a part of preexisting, bulk proteins. During embryogenesis quantitative changes take place in the distribution of these proteins. These changes are more pronounced after gastrulation, and are differently timed for particular antigens. Qualitative changes were not evident by the methods used in these experiments.
