BACKGROUND: It is current UK policy to expand the numbers of newly qualified doctors entering training to become GPs, to meet increased demand. All factors were included in each of the four surveys except the last two, which were excluded from the survey of 2002 graduates, and ‘Promotion/career prospects’, which was excluded from the survey of the graduates of 2008.
