Haplotypes of alpha-globin-gene in the Saudi population--the triplicated gene (alpha alpha alpha anti 3.7/).

M A el-Hazmi1.

Abstract

Using restriction endonucleases Bam HI, Bg1 II, Hpa I, Hind III and Xba I, the alpha alpha alpha anti 3.7/ haplotype was studied in the Saudi population. This paper presents the frequency of the alpha gene haplotype alpha alpha alpha anti 3.7/ in different regions of Saudi Arabia, where thalassaemia occurs at a high frequency.
