Abstract
Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed on 72 fecal isolates of Plesiomonas shigelloides from patients with diarrhea by using a standard agar dilution technique. All isolates were obtained from a single geographic location. Based on the in vitro activities demonstrated in this study, norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin, and trimethoprim may be effective as oral agents in the treatment of P. shigelloides diarrheal disease. For the parenteral treatment of extraintestinal infection, netilmicin and the cephalosporins had the best in vitro activity.Entities:
