Abstract
Acute anaemia requiring blood transfusion frequently occurs in severe burn patients. It has two major sources: perioperative bleeding (efforts have to be made to reduce it) and "intensive care anaemia" (therefore useless blood sampling should be avoided). In these patients with abnormal haematopoiesis, treatment is based on blood transfusion, which has its own side effects. Consequently, a restrictive strategy should be applied.Entities:
