Thank you very much for your positive comments (González-Méijome, 2017) on our paper (Torii et al., 2017). As you have noted the cause and effect between violet light exposure and axial elongation of the eye has yet to be confirmed, and of course, there is the possibility that other mechanisms may be involved as well. We would like to pursue the EGR-1 activation story, as well as the other factors. Extensive mouse studies are now underway to determine what is the biggest factor for myopia progression. In addition, we appreciate your comments on the violet light hypothesis. We are currently doing a clinical trial Minami Aoyama Eye Clinic in Tokyo, Japan using a violet light-emitting desktop light and violet light-transmitting eyeglasses (Clinical trial number: UMIN000021897). Also, a randomized clinical trial is underway on violet light transmitting eyeglasses for the prevention of myopia at Hara Eye Clinic in Tochigi, Japan (Clinical trial number: UMIN000023386). I hope this finding will be the initial step for combatting the pandemic of myopia through the control of light.
