Abstract
Short-latency somatosensory evoked potentials elicited by stimulation of the posterior tibial nerve at the ankle were studied in 75 preterm infants. Normative data for the latency of the first cortical component (P1) were obtained for infants from 27 weeks gestation to term, and showed a linear decrease with increasing gestational age. As the pathway of this response traverses areas of the brain likely to be affected by ischaemic and haemorrhagic lesions, abnormalities in the response might indicate later motor disorder.Entities:
