A letter to the editor entitled “Cancer Biopsy in Ancient Persian Medicine: Do or Not to Do!” was published in Iran J Public Health (1). I would like to focus attention on authors’ suggestion for using non-invasive methods such as laboratory parameters and biomarkers, for tumor detection. Advancements in oncology resulted in development of different protocols for cancer treatment. Accordingly, accurate diagnosis base on pathologic specimen is very important particularly to select a suitable treatment protocol and therefore, doing tumor biopsy is inevitable. Although concern for tumor seeding during biopsy still exists but several studies, for instance (2–4) have found that, its likelihood is very low. Furthermore, advantages of correct cancer diagnosis is would usually weigh more than potential risks of biopsy (3, 4).
