Dear Editor, I read with interest the article on Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs).[1] The authors focused on the capacity of the frontline health workers to deliver the health care services to the community. True, small sample size is a limitation of the study, as admitted by the authors. However, clarification about certain details could have improved the study. Transport facility was mentioned as difficulty as perceived by ASHA. As free transport is being offered under Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram, it could have been correlated with the problem. As the study period was not mentioned in the article, it was difficult for the readers to link the ends. Monitoring has been stressed, but the availability of ASHA facilitator (or, similar personnel) was not enquired.[2] It was not mentioned how the authors confirmed the number of visits paid by ASHA. Registers would have reflected the true picture of their practices. The records would also indicate the gaps between family planning practices and counseling done by ASHA. The institutional delivery rate has been revolutionized following the introduction of Janani Suraksha Yojana. Mention about such rate from the study area could reflect the performance of ASHA.
