Abstract
Congenital diaphragmatic hernias are rare embryonic defects, mostly diagnosed in newborns with respiratory distress. The defect is often situated posterolaterally as a Bochdalek hernia. We report an unusual case of a 27-year old woman presenting with diffuse abdominal pain five days postpartum. An X-ray and a computed tomography displayed a herniation of the colon into the left chest cavity. Through converted open surgery, the 6 x 3 cm defect was repaired and the recovery was uneventful. Bochdalek hernias in adults may present as gastrointestinal emergencies and rapid diagnosis and operation are crucial.Entities:
