Abstract
Intraperitoneal (i.p.) administration of imipramine dose-dependently inhibited gastric lesions induced by 3 h of cold restraint stress. The high dose of imipramine (5 mg/kg) almost completely abolished gastric lesion formation, and also suppressed acid secretion in rats with pyloric ligation. Intracisternal imipramine (1 microgram) was also protective. These findings suggest that tricyclic antidepressants may play an important role in preventing the deleterious effects of stress on the gut.Entities:
