Infant feeding patterns and weight status in five year old children.

J P Kevany1, S N Humphries1, A F Corboy1.

Abstract

WEIGHT status of five year old children was examined in relation to feeding practices in the first year of life. Relative overweight was significantly associated with artificial feeding and the early addition of cereals to the bottle. Parental non-response to the questionnaire on feeding practices was also significantly associated with overweight. The implications of observed feeding patterns are discussed.
