Transbronchial brushing of peripheral lung lesions.

The use of transbronchial brushing in six patients with peripheral lung lesions is described. In all of the four cases of carcinoma the brushings contained diagnostic cells and in two of these cases previous bronchoscopy had failed to provide histological evidence of tumour. More widespread application of this simple and useful diagnostic technique is advocated.
