Abstract
BETWEEN 1966 and 1971 the number of people aged 65 and over rose in Ireland but the proportion remained the same. One quarter of old people in Ireland are single. Childlessness is the kernel of the geriatric problem. While the country is becoming more urbanised the geriatric problem is still predominantely a rural one. Guidelines for future policy are briefly outlined.Entities:
