Abstract

THE CENTENARY of Florence nightingale's death is the inspiration for this literary journey, which takes the reader from the 19th to the 21st century. It does so using the stories of nurses working around the world: Zena Edmund-Charles, one of thousands of young women who came from the Caribbean to the 'mother country' in the 1950s; Carol Etherington, working in Darfur, Sudan; and Veronica D'Souza, in charge of operating theatres in Mumbai, India.
