Headache in sleep apnea.

N N Boutros.

Abstract

Because headache may be the presenting symptom of sleep apnea, we attempted to develop guidelines to help the clinician know when to initiate an apnea workup. To do this, we administered a 47-question survey to characterize the headaches of 20 consecutive patients with sleep apnea. They had significantly more headaches upon awakening in the morning and more mixed-type headaches when compared to an age- and sex-matched control group.
