Abstract
Subdural empyema complicating meningococcal meningitis is rare. We describe a case and 14 previously reported cases; all had persistent fever and 12 had seizures. Initial cerebrospinal fluid showed raised protein with low glucose values. Neuroimaging confirmed the diagnosis in all cases where undertaken. Ten children had neurosurgical intervention. Clinical outcome was available in 14 cases; a full recovery was reported in 10 and 1 child died.Entities:
