Seasonal variation in blood cholinesterase activity.

D Ratner1, P Bar Sella, A Schneeyour, A Kardontchik, E Eshel.

Abstract

Blood cholinesterase activity was determined in 482 people to establish the range of enzyme values in residents of our area. A decrease in activity was noted during the summer, which recurred the following summer. This was due to a selective decrease in plasma pseudocholinesterase activity. The seasonal variation may be explained by the ingestion of pesticide residues found in fruit and vegetables.
