Abstract
BACKGROUND: Choline is an essential nutrient and betaine is an osmolyte and methyl donor. Both are important to maintain health including adequate lipid metabolism. Supplementation of dietary choline and betaine increase muscle mass and reduce body fat in animals. However, little data is available regarding the role of dietary choline and betaine on body composition in humans.Entities:

The following subdivision is used as normal-weight (18.5–24.9 kg/m2), overweight (25.0–29.9 kg/m2), obese class (≥30.0 kg/m2) according to criteria of the WHO.
