Abstract
In this paper the German Society for Medical Intensive Care Medicine and Emergency Medicine (DGIIN) provides statements regarding the importance and advancement of Medical Intensive Care Medicine within the structures of Internal Medicine in Germany. Of pivotal importance are the training of medical intensivists, the cooperation with intensivists from other disciplines and the collaboration with emergency departments. In order to fulfil the various and challenging tasks in patient care, training, research and medical education competently and on an international level, more intensivists in leading positions especially in academic institutions are essential.Entities:
