Abstract
BACKGROUND: Botryomycosis is a rare infectious disease which usually affects the skin. The low virulence of the bacteria tending to form grains and the immune status of the host are important factors in the development of the disease.Entities:

Fig. 1Clinical presentation. a Active lesion on the right cheek as well as postinflammatory hyperpigmentation on the left cheek and on the forehead. b Painful large nodule draining pus on pressure. c Ulcerating and crusted nodule on the scalp.
Fig. 2Histopathologic findings diagnostic of botryomycosis. a Scan showing grains and inflammation within the dermis of an active nodule. b HE stain revealed a dense inflammatory neutrophilic infiltrate surrounding dense grains, consisting of a strongly basophilic blossom-like assembly of bacteria in an eosinophilic capsule (inset). c Brenn-Brown stain identified Gram-positive bacteria which were identified in cultures as S. aureus.
