Abstract
Pelvic ring fractures in elderly patients are usually associated with a low-energy trauma, which may hide the fact that these fractures are often a combination of anterior and posterior pelvic ring injuries with a potential significant instability with subsequent pain and immobility. Pelvic fractures in the geriatric population are associated with a high morbidity and mortality. The goals of any treatment are the restoration of mobility and independency as well as the prevention of future fractures. In order to accomplish these goals, an interdisciplinary approach is indispensable. This review is aimed to provide insight into the characteristics of geriatric pelvic ring injuries and into their diagnosis and therapy with the associated outcome.Entities:
