[Multicenter double blind study of tiaprofenic acid versus placebo in tonsillitis and pharyngitis in children].

C Benarrosh1.

Abstract

Tiaprofenic acid (Surgam) is a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used in France for the treatment of acute inflammation, during episodes of upper respiratory tract infections in children. The efficacy and tolerance of Surgam for the treatment of inflammation occurring in the course of tonsillitis and pharyngitis were evaluated by a randomized double blind study. 106 children aged 6 to 10 years were included in the study. After 48 hours and 5 days of treatment, the efficacy of Surgam was significantly superior to placebo. 92% of parents estimated that their children "felt much better" in the Surgam group vs 66% in the placebo group. Tolerance was good in both groups.
