Abstract
OBJECTIVES: A long-lasting legionellosis outbreak was reported between November 2011 and July 2012 in a hotel in Calpe (Spain) affecting 44 patients including six deaths. Intensive epidemiological and microbiological investigations were performed in order to detect the reservoirs.Entities:

Biofilm samples from hotel rooms, hall and restrooms (n = 164) were analyzed directly as none produced positive cultures. The results of those samples in which L. pneumophila was detected (n = 105) are shown in the first three rows depending on whether they yielded a complete ST, an almost complete ST (at least five alleles determined to be identical to those defining the ST), or an incomplete ST (less than five alleles determined). For some cultures, several colonies were sequenced, as detailed (N when type of sample is “Culture”). The last three cultured samples revealed a complex composition with two or more STs and/or another Legionella species.
Figure 2Maximum likelihood tree constructed with RAxML using SBT data of all clinical and environmental samples included in the study. Red and green tips represent clinical and environmental samples, respectively. Reference STs are shown in black. Complete profiles are marked with a filled circle. Bootstrap support values higher than 70% are shown.
