Lack of association between GSTP1 Ile105Val polymorphism and coronary heart disease risk: a meta-analysis.

Abstract

Many epidemiological studies have evaluated the association between GSTP1 Ile105Val polymorphism and coronary heart disease risk, but the results were inconsistent. This study aims re-evaluate the association between GSTP1 Ile105Val Polymorphism and coronary heart disease risk with a meta-analysis. We performed a search in the PubMed, Springer and Elsevier and ran a meta-analysis based on 8 case-control studies that included 3,888 cases and 3,476 controls. Crude odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to assess the strength of the association. The results showed that there was no significant association between GSTP1 Ile105Val Polymorphism and coronary heart disease risk susceptibility in the overall population (GG vs. AA: OR = 0.98, 95% CI = 0.84-1.15; GA vs. AA: OR = 1.04, 95% CI = 0.84-1.29; GA/GG vs. AA: OR = 1.02, 95% CI = 0.84-1.25; GG vs. AA/GA: OR = 0.94, 95% CI = 0.81-1.09). Subgroup analysis stratified by ethnicity and source of control showed no significant association with any genetic model. Our meta-analysis showed that GSTP1 Ile105Val polymorphisms might not be significantly associated with coronary heart disease risk.
