Abstract
Laparoscopic conversion of vertical banded gastroplasty (VBG) into Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is a technically demanding procedure. This article demonstrates the feasibility of conversion of failed VBG to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP).We have a series of 15 patients who underwent conversion from VBG to RYGBP, and the results were satisfactory regarding the percent excess weight loss and the resolution of the comorbidities, without a significant increase in the complications. In patients with a difficult anatomy below the cardia, dividing the esophagus just above the esophagogastric junction and performing an esophagojejunostomy may be a safe alternative to converting to a Scopinaro-BPD. Laparoscopic conversion of failed VBG to RYGBP is safe and feasible.Entities:
