Abstract
This paper focuses on the risk factors of primay and secondary proliferative vitreoretinopathy, modern views of pathophysiology of this disease, and the role of inflammation in its development. Special attention is given to the involvement of pigment epithelial cells, macrophages, hyalocytes, gliocytes, supporting fibers (Muller's cells), mediators of inflammation, such as cytokines, chemokines, and growth factors, with reference to their interaction in the processes of proliferation and development of retinal membranes.Entities:
