A professional organization for nephrology nurses.

The American Association for Nephrology Nurses (AANN), the predecessor of the American Nephrology Nurses' Association (ANNA), was formed in April 1969, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, but the beginnings of the organization reach back to the early 1960s. This article will review the events leading to the formation of AANN and discuss sources of support for the effort.
