|---|---|---|---|
| Age, yr | 46.8±7.15 | 42.1±6.72 | <0.001 |
| WC, cm | 87.0±10.44 | 82.5±9.38 | <0.001 |
| Not current smoker, % | 53.8 (308/573) | 49.5 (2,244/4,529) | 0.063 |
| Not everyday drinking, % | 61.3 (351/573) | 67.8 (3,071/4,529) | <0.01 |
| Exercise everyday, % | 35.4 (203/573) | 41.2 (1,868/4,529) | <0.01 |
| SBP, mm Hg | 128.8±13.32 | 122.8±11.38 | <0.001 |
| DBP, mm Hg | 81.5±9.24 | 76.4±9.65 | <0.001 |
| Triglycerides, mg/dL | 113.7 (1.86) | 92.8 (1.76) | <0.001 |
| HDL-C, mg/dL | 59.1±17.11 | 61.7±15.94 | <0.01 |
| Uric acid, mg/dL | 6.1±1.23 | 5.9 ±1.18 | <0.001 |

| Fibrinogen, mg/dLa | 256.2±45.37 | 243.6±42.75 | <0.001 |
Values are presented as arithmetic mean±standard deviation or percentage (number). Data for triglycerides and CRP were presented as geometric mean (geometric standard deviation). Mann-Whitney test for continuous variables or Fisher exact test for categorical variables.
IFG, impaired fasting glucose; WC, waist circumference; SBP, systolic blood pressure; DBP, diastolic blood pressure; HDL-C, high density lipoprotein cholesterol; CRP, C-reactive protein.
aNumbers of IFG and non-IFG were 569 and 4,515, respectively.
Characteristics of the subjects categorized according to the smoking status
| Characteristic | Smoking status | |||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| No smoker ( | Past smoker ( | Current smoker <20/day | Current smoker ≥20/day | |
| Uric acid, mg/dL | 6.0±0.033 | 6.1±0.035 | 5.9±0.032 | 5.8±0.035 |
| C-reactive protein, mg/L | 0.33 (1.03) | 0.35 (1.03) | 0.34 (1.03) | 0.39 (1.03) |
| Fibrinogen, mg/dL | 240.5±1.17 | 240.6±1.23 | 246.9±1.14 | 253.2±1.25 |
Values for uric acid and fibrinogen are presented as arithmetic mean±standard error or for C-reactive protein are presented as geometric mean (standard error). Age was adjusted at 42.7. Jonckheere-Terpstra trend test showed all significance with P<0.001.
