Gatekeeping the emergency department: impact of a Medicaid primary care case management program.

This article presents the impact of a primary care case management program on reducing the use of the emergency department (ED) as a source of nonemergency care. Medicaid-eligible persons enrolled with one of four different types of case managers. The emergency department use of enrollees is contrasted with that of persons remaining in traditional Medicaid.
