Abstract
BACKGROUND: Hamstring injuries are the second most common injury causing missed days in professional baseball field players. Recent studies have shown the preventive benefit of eccentric conditioning on the hamstring muscle group in injury prevention. Specifically, Nordic-type exercises have been shown to decrease the incidence of acute hamstring injuries in professional athletes.Entities:

Figure 1.Example of Nordic exercise starting position with athlete’s feet held in place with ankle holder. Athlete begins exercise with torso perpendicular to the floor.
Figure 2.Example of Nordic exercise as athlete begins controlled, eccentric contraction of the hamstring muscle group lowering his body from the perpendicular to parallel position relative to the floor.
Figure 3.Example of Nordic exercise as athlete has eccentrically lowered his body parallel to the floor preparing to push up to the starting position.
