The Prevention and Management of Air Leaks Following Pulmonary Resection.

Bryan M Burt1, Joseph B Shrager2.

Abstract

Alveolar air leaks are a common problem in the daily practice of thoracic surgeons. Prolonged air leak following pulmonary resection is associated with increased morbidity, increased length of hospital stay, and increased costs. This article reviews the evidence for the various intraoperative and postoperative options to prevent and manage postoperative air leak. Published by Elsevier Inc.
