Exercise and prevention of coronary heart disease.

R M Butler1, L Goldberg.

Abstract

Exercise programs can be used to improve functional capacity, lower the myocardial energy cost of performing work, and favorably alter one's cardiovascular risk profile. In addition, a large body of data support the role of exercise in the primary prevention of coronary heart disease. Standardized exercise programs are safe and effective for a large majority of patients.
