Leiomyoma of the tongue: report of case.

An instance of leiomyoma of the tongue has been reported. The theories of origin of smooth muscle tumors within the oral cavity have been reviewed. The necessity for differentiation of leiomyomas from other spindle-cell tumors and the need for thorough examination of the specimen have been discussed. Complete surgical excision of these tumors is the preferred treatment.
