Eagle's syndrome: diagnostic considerations and report of case.

T E Russell.

Abstract

Orofacial pain, as well as other neurologic symptoms, can result from the presence of an elongated styloid process. These symptoms are familiar to dentists and can indicate a broad range of dental conditions. Eagle's syndrome of the type, symptomatic elongated styloid process, has been described and a case presented. We believe that the simple diagnostic procedure of palpation of the tonsillar fossa should be routine during oral examination. Eagel's syndrome must be considered as a differential diagnosis of hemifacial pain of obscure causation.
