Abstract
Many forms of glomerulonephritis, even the more common types belong to the so-called rare diseases; however, they are very important, for example with respect to health economics as they often affect young people. An example is immunoglobulin A (IgA) nephropathy, which is the most common cause of end stage renal disease in young adults. This review summarizes the current knowledge on the pathogenesis, clinical presentation and therapy of the most common European types of glomerulonephritis with a special focus on the most recently acquired knowledge on IgA nephropathy, membranous glomerulonephritis, minimal change nephropathy and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS).Entities:
