[Mucosa-saving conservative maxillary sinus surgery with periostium-based facial bone coverage].

Two hundred and seven patients treated with various techniques of maxillary sinus surgery were followed up. Although this was a retrospective study the results seem to demonstrate that the more conservative surgical approaches are more favorable in terms of impaired sensitivity and pain in the maxillary sinus than the formerly practiced radical CALDWELL-LUC procedure. In some cases postoperative pain was improved by neurolysis and reconstruction of the facial bone wall.
