Thoracic Cancer was included into the Science Citation Index (SCI) in 2011 and has been recognized by peers gradually since its inaugural issue of May 2010. Our impact factor increased significantly between 2012 and 2014, with a current impact factor of 1.126. Thoracic Cancer moved from quarterly to bimonthly issues, with increasing submissions and subsequent articles published. All of these factors show that Thoracic Cancer is in a period of rapid development. Now we reach the open access (OA) era for biomedical journals. OA papers are highly accessed and medical journals have many roles, but above all, the dissemination of medical information is key.1 Impact factor and article trends for Thoracic Cancer, 2010–2014. , Articles; , Impact factor. Now, with the support of Wiley, Thoracic Cancer is moving to OA in 2015. OA does not mean an article processing charge (APC); on the contrary we will invest more financial and human resources to support thoracic cancer. More high quality academic manuscripts will be released, under a rigid peer-review process. We are working toward acceptance on PubMed Central, the well-known open platform with broad readership. We hope that all colleagues will continue to support the journal to ensure that we can provide the best services in future.
