[Superficial ablation of the cornea using the excimer laser (193 nm)].

T Bende, T Seiler, J Wollensak.

Abstract

The final result of corneal surgery such as resection of the pterygium or lamellar keratoplasty is a rough corneal surface. Scanning electron microscopy shows that it is possible to obtain a smoother surface by using the 193 nm excimer laser, as it shows significantly better results than with conventional methods. This procedure was tested on eight patients and documented photographically.
