Abstract
Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a leading cause of mortality in preterm infants. This article reviews the immunologic and hematological abnormalities typically seen in infants with NEC, such as elevated plasma cytokine levels, thrombocytopenia, increased or decreased neutrophil counts, low monocyte counts, and anemia. Some of these findings may provide important diagnostic and prognostic information.Entities:
