On alleged gains in power from lower P-values.

Abstract

The various suggestions that have been made to increase the power of Fisher's test for 2 x 2 tables are shown to give no real increases. One-sided tests are examined in detail but two-sided test problems are also considered. The need for flexibility in use of P-values is stressed.
