Abstract

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This is a review of select 2014 English language publications in the domain of bladder conserving treatment for patients with localized invasive urothelial vesical cancer. RECENT
FINDINGS: The intention is to summarize the avenues of research being pursued to improve the success of this management strategy.
SUMMARY: Directions being investigated are enhancement to bladder tumor control, amelioration of treatment toxicity, and individualization of treatment. Although the results reported are clearly beneficial, what is of more value is the appreciation of the multipronged direction of the research being undertaken to firmly ensconce this organ preserving strategy within the clinical armamentarium that urooncologists can bring to bear in caring for the individual patient diagnosed with bladder cancer.
