Abstract
OBJECTIVES: Individuals with co-occurring substance use and anxiety disorders can present as a diagnostic challenge. This article aims to provide clinicians with an overview of practical approaches to assessment and treatment of this common co-morbidity. CONCLUSIONS: A comprehensive assessment can assist in formulating a holistic management plan that incorporates adapted psychological and pharmacological therapies to address both substance use and anxiety disorders in an integrated manner. © The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists 2015.
