An international approach to research on brain development.

Charles A Nelson1.

Abstract

Studies of so-called 'extreme environments' have contributed greatly to our understanding of the effects of early adversity on development. In this article I describe ongoing work in low- and middle-income countries that is designed to shed light on how early adversity becomes biologically embedded, and I discuss the potential implications for public policy.
