Abstract
BACKGROUND: Concussion, its recognition, diagnosis, and treatment is a growing public health issue. Massage practitioners who specialize in rehabilitation deal with a variety of injury cases that involve concussion, including those incurred by falls, motor vehicle incidents, and sports injuries.Entities:

Interventions — Tools and Assessment Methods
| History of | Patient or observer recall of event | To recreate image of forces on the body to determine body structures involved |
| Pain Level | Visual Analog Scale (VAS) | To assess level of pain by self reporting |
| Postural Balance | Bilateral specific points and locations noted Pre / Post | To determine musculo-skeletal alignments in appropriate planes |
| Standing Balance | Balance Error using BESS scoring system | To determine effects on balance with active muscle use |
| Specific Muscle | Resistance to specific muscle demands | To determine ROM, weakness or pain |
| Visual Observations | Bilateral view on body planes | To determine asymmetries |
Intervention Physical Techniques
| Pelvic Girdle | Pelvic girdle soft tissue release | Release muscle hypertonicities/fascia in pelvic girdle | Balance sacrum and pelvic relationship with spinal column |
| Cervical spine posterior | Application of gentle caudal traction | Encourage fascial release in area | Promote range of motion in area |
| Cervical spine anterior | Palpation of muscle tonicities | Reduce hypertonicities and fascial holding | Remove range of motion restrictions |
| Atlanto-occipital joint | Imbalance detection addressing: Hypertonicities | Reduce muscular hypertonicities | Promote full range of motion in joint areas |
| Atlanto-axial joint | Lateral glide Rotation | Create balance in joint positioning | Decrease joint and area restrictions |
Pretreatment to Posttreatment Changes
| 1. Headaches | Present Constantly | Zero |
| 2. Focus/Concentration | About 15 minutes | 2 hours or more |
| 3. Medications | Daily for Pain and Nausea | Zero |
| 4. Pain (VAS) (10 is severe) as Self-Reported | 8–9/10 | 0/10 |
| 5. Physical Activity | Zero | Daily Increase |
| 6. Postural Balance | Uneven | Balanced |
| 7. BESS Score | 60/60 | 35/60 |
| 8. Hypertonicities in Cranium, Cervical and Shoulder Girdle | Severe | Low or Normal |
| 9. Muscle Strength | Low | Normal |
| 10. ROM in Cervical Spine | Reduced in rotation, lateral tilt, forward flexion | Within normal ROM in all planes |
