Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To explore the expressions of TUBB3 (β-tubulin III) and γ-synuclein (SNCG) in colorectal adenocarcinoma and their clinical significance.
METHODS: The expressions of TUBB3 and γ-synuclein were detected by SP immunohistochemistry in 180 cases of colorectal adenocarcinoma.
RESULTS: TUBB3 protein positive rate was 82.2% and γ-synuclein protein positive rate 73.9% in colorectal adenocarcinoma. And there were insignificant differences of positive expression between TUBB3 and γ-synuclein (P > 0.05). The positive expression of TUBB3 was not correlated with gender, age, histological differentiation, depth of tumor invasion or clinical stage (P > 0.05). The positive expression of γ-synuclein was closely correlated with depth of tumor invasion and clinical stage (P < 0.05), but with gender, age or histological differentiation (P > 0.05). The positive expressions of TUBB3 and γ-synuclein were correlated in colorectal adenocarcinoma (r = 0.154, P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONS: γ-synuclein, detected by immunohistochemistry is better than TUBB3 in colorectal adenocarcinoma. And γ-synuclein may be used as a new prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target.
