Myoglobinemia and renal failure in toluene poisoning: a case report.

T Mizutani1, N Oohashi, H Naito.

Abstract

Rhabdomyolysis, myoglobinemia and acute renal failure were observed in a 26-year-old male after oral ingestion of a solvent containing toluene. The rhabdomyolysis and myoglobinemia seemed to be related to the toxicity of toluene as well as the patient's violent attempts to escape restraint. It is likely that acute renal failure, in this patient was not due to myoglobinemia alone, but also to renal toxicity of toluene.
