Abstract
We remind readers of the evidence that community empowerment is a cost-effective way to improve health, and also that the conditions now exist to develop this approach in the UK, by facilitating collaboration between clusters of general practices and multiple other organisations. We argue that it is the role of Health and Wellbeing Boards to make sure that this huge potential is realised. Keywords: Health and Wellbeing Boards; asset-based community development; community development; cost benefit; health protection; personal care and public health; social justice; social networks; the registered list
