Minimal interventions with problem drinkers--a pilot study of the effect of two interview styles on perceived self-efficacy.

I G Galbraith.

Abstract

This study compares the effects of two differing interview styles on perceived self-efficacy in subjects receiving treatment for alcohol related problems. A 'Motivational Interviewing' Style was noted to have significantly increased situational confidence questionnaire (SCQ) scores when compared with scores from clients receiving 'Advice'. These differences conform with initial predictions and could have implications for clinical practice. Further research is suggested to test the applicability of these results under more rigorous conditions.
